Air Conditioning Troubleshoot 2003 Saturn L300?

HVAC system is 'automatic climate control' type. Set the temp and the car does the rest. Here's what I know:

Heat Works Fine
System has been tested, no freon leaks.
Problem: A/C does not kick on regardless of temp setting.
the unit blows warm air. This was sporadic at first, no cold air at all now.
Took car to saturn dealer, they claim they cannot determine if the problem is with Body Control Module or HVAC control head. I have a 50/50 chance, replace one, if that does not work, replace the other. Cost $500 each. (no refund if the first fix does not work).
They tested the BCM and claimed it was having trouble communicating with the HVAC control head, but they couldn't guarantee that is the problem.

Any thoughts? I don't mind paying for repairs, this seems a little out of line.

Hello... Your BCM communicates with the the HVAC compressor via a data wire. If it's having a problem communicating, it is entirely possible it could just be a wire that is shorted, or a connector that has/had an intermittent connection.

You may also have them check the low/high pressure switches to determine if they are operating properly. These small switches fail quite often, and I have seen bigger items replaced at the expense of one of these $10.00 parts.

To be completely honest, it sounds as though your dealership has a few techs that may be a bit green. This would explain why they are unsure of the problem. You would be surprised how many techs working at a dealership don't understand the basics of HVAC.

I would try taking it to a shop that specializes in HVAC for automotive. It sounds as though the car is too old to be covered under a warranty anyways, and they will more than likely be less expensive than a dealership. Plus they specialize in HVAC and can isolate/cure the problem in no time.

Future

The Veracruz will be given an ultra-low sulfur diesel engine circa 2009 to 2010.[citation needed] This engine achieves better gas mileage and more torque than its gasoline counterpart.[citation needed] The diesel engine is currently available in Korea but does not yet match United States emission standards.[citation needed]

In 2008, the Veracruz was also sold in some European countries as the iX55.[citation needed]
