How does a rear axle seal fail in an 06 Mustang?
The Mustang only has 41,000 miles on it. I was getting an oil change at the Ford dealership when they found the problem. Could it have happened from something hitting it hard? I was on the freeway radiatorrge plastic garbage can lid got stuck in the front, damaging the bumper,radiator, and condenser. It then flew out the back along with the lower grill. Could that have damaged the seal? I had new tires put on a week before the accident and they found nothing wrong. Please help!
sometimes the vent on the rear axle will get dirt in it and stop up. This will build up pressure in the housing causing a seep in the seal .that doesn't mean the seal is out though. usually you can clean the vent and it will quit seeping. If you go to a dealership they will do there free inspection and they will find all kind of things that they can fix . remember the guys get paid for how much they do not by the hour and a seal is an easy quick job.
